Title: Junior Microbiologist

Reports to: Head of the Department

Location: Wimpey Laboratories Dubai

Basic Major Functions: Monitoring and assessing samples from a range of sources for signs of contamination.

Relationships: Microbiologist will work under the direct guidance and supervision of Head of the Department in association with Senior Microbiologist.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• To ensure and maintain GLP/GMP in the lab.
• Preparation of Media, reagents and sample preparation.
• Maintenance of bacterial control cultures and working stock.
• Equipment preventive maintenance and equipment’s calibration.
• To maintain and update records of routine activities.
• Calculation of test results & reporting.
• Sampling and sample handling if necessary.
• To ensure housekeeping in lab.
• To perform air monitoring of the laboratory and record results.
• To perform duties of immediate senior and junior in their absence.
• Using a variety of identification methods, including molecular techniques, to test samples
• Developing new techniques, products and processes
• Working with specialist computer software to undertake studies
• Managing and overseeing laboratory work.
• Planning and organising resources and activities;
• Any other task assigned by the seniors or management.
• Assurance of ISO/IEC 17025 standard in the laboratory.
• Assurance of accreditation requirements in the laboratory

Competence Requirements:

• Education /Qualification: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree/ Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Microbiology or a related field.
• Experience & other skills: Minimum one year of experience conducting a variety of tests in a testing laboratory.
• Training: Awareness training for ISO/IEC 17025:2017, training in microbiological testing of food, water and swab samples, training to use laboratory equipments such as RT-PCR, LAF, Incubator, etc.

Note: The training requirement for fresher staff will be provided during his/her 6 months probationary period and he will be evaluated by the HOD or Operations manager.
